Green ICT Competition for Young Professionals

Winners of the first IEEE Young Professional GreenICT Idea Competition!

 

A few months ago, we invited you to join the IEEE Green ICT Initiative and put forward your ingenious ideas, creative solutions, and innovative visions and to join us for the first IEEE Greening through ICT (GtICT) Summit in Paris October 3, 2017. And to contribute to an open dialogue with political, technical, and business leaders who make decisions for our future.

As one important contribution of the IEEE Greening through ICT Summit, we invited you to participate in the first (IEEE) Young Professional Green ICT Idea Competition. This competition focuses on contributing ideas on Greening ICT itself and Greening through ICT various application sectors of ICT. The ultimate goal is thus not only to create “Sustainable ICT” but also to enable transformative change across society through “Sustainability by ICT”. The following three themes are of interest:

  1. Improved energy efficiency in ICT and by ICT
  2. Reduction of carbon and polluting atmospheric emissions in ICT and by ICT
  3. Improved technology life cycle management (i.e. in the manufacturing, operation and disposal phases of technology)

 

We received 30 proposals from around the world, including: Australia, USA, Pakistan, India, Finland, Canada, Kingdom of Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Italy, Germany, Madurai, South Africa, Spain and South Korea. 

 

The IEEE Green ICT Initiative would like to congratulate the winners of the IEEE Young Professional Green ICT Idea Competition:

  • Hasan Farooq and Ali Imran, USA (Energy Efficiency Theme), spAtiotemporal User activity and mobility pRediction empowered prOactive eneRgy sAving, AURORA, Framework, which builds on a proactive approach to maximize the energy efficiency in emerging ultra-dense networks.

and 

  • Alis Daniela Torres, Spain (Life-cycle Management Theme), City E-waste Platform: towards a sustainable management of E-Waste in Smart Cities.

Each winner will receive:

  • Free attendance to the IEEE Greening through ICT Summit in Paris, France being held on 3 October 2017;
  • Free trip and 2 nights’ accommodations to attend the Summit in Paris (for one person);
  • 500 Euros cash reward; and
  • 5 minutes of time for publicly presenting her/his idea at the IEEE Greening through ICT Summit.
