A Royal Society Report, "Digital Technology and the Planet - Harnessing Computing to achieve net zero" reports that Digital technology is embedded in our daily lives and in every sector, so it has a critical and growing part to play in delivering a net zero future. Nearly a third of the 50% carbon emissions reductions the UK needs to make by 2030 could be achieved through existing digital technology – from sensors to largescale modelling.

Sustainable ICT: Greening ICT and Greening by ICT

J. M. H. Elmirghani delivered a talk at Comms4Italy, A solidarity initiative for Italy by telecom researchers during COVID-19 organized by IEEE Italy Joint ComSoc/VTS Chapter, 27 March 2020. The talk, titled “Sustainable ICT: Greening ICT and Greening by ICT” focuses on two important areas of Sustainable ICT. The first is Greening ICT, in other words, making ICT energy efficient, green, reduces fog consumption and more.

J. M. H. Elmirghani delivered a talk (and invited paper) at IEEE 6G Wireless Summit, MATILDA Workshop, Levi, Lapland, Finland, 17-20 March 2020.

Jaafar’s talk focuses on Network Intelligence and Energy Efficient Resource Provisioning in 6G and some of the projects they have done in Wireless and Access networks; IoT Networks; Core Networks; Data Centre Networks and will outline some test-bed implementations in the University of Leeds and Future Directions.

GeSIConnect has launched its new report, "Enabling the Global Goals: Evidence of digital solutions' impact on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)." This report shares new, compelling evidence that the digital sector is positively linked to achieving the SDGs.

Along with this report, they have also launched a website where main findings and case studies will be showcased, and most importantly, will allow the digital industry to track its contribution to the SDGs with the GeSI Digital Access Index (DAI) developed for this project.

The IEEE Green ICT Initiative congratulates Dr. Earl McCune on his elevation to IEEE Fellow effective 1 January 2018, for leadership in polar modulation circuits and signals.

Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for elevation to IEEE Fellow. Less than 0.1% of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation.
