A De-centralized Cloud Could Cushion the Impact of IoT on ICT

Jaafar Elmirghani, one of the 3 Co-Chairs for the IEEE Green ICT Initiative, has published an interesting article for Energy Central that discusses the massive impact that the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) will have in two ways on Information and Communications technology (ICT).

It talks about the increase in sensors and devices and related energy use increase and their applications in many domains, both with impacts on carbon footprint.  It considers the end devices and sensors and how processing at the IoT network's edge could decentralize the cloud and improve the sustainability of ICT in the service of IoT.
